The Desperate House DJs production trio consists of John Daminato, DJ Swank!, and Andrew Emil. John originally conceived the catchy name years back from doing many local gigs at small bars, pubs, basements, restaurants, bedrooms, and other venues in which promoters like to convince DJs that their payment for mixing should be free drinks and tacos. Only a true house lover and desperate house DJ would continue to take these gigs under such outlandish conditions.
The name didn't take action until John and Swank were fooling around on the mic in the studio. John spilled some beats and fairy dust on Swank's vocals; there was an explosion, a blown subwoofer, and when the dust cleared, what we had left was some hard-hitting funk with a bit of quirkiness over the top.
Some of the first locals to start testing these gems were Justin Long, Chris Santiago and Frank Solano: with such positive DJ and dance floor feedback, we knew we really had something. We decided to bring in long-time veteran and local Chicago whiz kid, founder of Four Play music....Andrew Emil. He did us a favor and only charged us an arm and leg for his remix work. Since Daminato and Swank were now missing an arm and leg each, we decided to make Andrew Emil a permanent fixture to the team.
Our first single, "Back 2 Brooklyn", was released on vinyl through Esntion Records as a 4-track EP, with mix from each of us and a combo mix from Daminato and Swank -- it was well received by the "House Heads" and other "cool music taste makers" of the world. We are very excited to announce that our debut album will be coming out mid-2008 on Esntion Records. This album aims to exploit all of our talents, tastes, studio knowledge, multi-genre and clashing egos, all summed up in ten pieces of what ever we want.....including guest musicians and vocalists announced in the future.
